Resumen
Este artículo persigue dos objetivos. En primer lugar, pretende resaltar los niveles comparativamente altos de disciplina partidaria en la Cámara de Diputados de Argentina a través de un análisis de las votaciones nominales en el período posterior a 1983. En segundo lugar, busca identificar los determinantes más importantes de este comportamiento. A partir de la investigación realizada, se concluye que la disciplina partidaria en la Cámara de Diputados es relativamente alta y que este nivel de disciplina deriva, principalmente, de una combinación de reglas institucionales que regulan tanto las elecciones como la organización legislativa interna. Estas reglas, conjuntamente con la ambición política progresiva que posee la mayoría de los legisladores y el factor personal/histórico, contribuyen a comprender los motivos por los cuales los legisladores no suelen votar, salvo raras excepciones, contra su propio partido.

Abstract
This article has two objectives. First, it aims to highlight the comparatively high levels of party discipline in the Argentina’s House of Deputies through an analysis of roll call votes in the period after 1983. Second, it seeks to identify the most important determinants of this behavior. From this research, it is concluded that party discipline in the House of Deputies is relatively high and that this level of discipline derives mainly from a combination of institutional rules that govern both elections and internal legislative organization. These rules, together with the progressive political ambition of the majority of the legislators and the personal/historic factor, help to understand the reasons why legislators do not usually vote, with rare exceptions, against their own party.
