Resumen
Si en algo se distinguen republicanismo y liberalismo es en la importancia que el primero asigna al concepto de virtud. Es a partir de la virtud que se determinan las funciones del Estado y se define el ciudadano. Y es a partir de ella que se delimitan las nociones de libertad o de jerarquía que terminan de dar forma a la concepción republicana. Pensada como lo opuesto a la corrupción atribuida fundamentalmente al mercado, los republicanos modernos recuperaron a través de ella una tradición clásica readaptándola a las nuevas condiciones políticas. Pero por ello mismo la noción de virtud adquirió significados distintos a partir de los cuales se articularon regímenes diferentes, algunos incluso altamente represivos. Es por ello que analizar las formas diferentes de significar no sólo nos permitiría comprender las distintas formas de republicanismo, sino también los riesgos que en los regímenes modernos conlleva toda la absolutización de la virtud.

Abstract
If there is any difference between republicanism and liberalism is in the importance that the first one assigns to the concept of virtue. It is from virtue that the functions of government and the definition of citizen are determined. And it is that concept the one that delimits the notion of freedom or hierarchy that shape the republican notion. Designed as opposed to corruption attributed mainly to the market, modern republicans regained through virtue a classical tradition readapted to the new political conditions. But for that very reason the notion of virtue acquired different meanings from which different regimes were articulated, some even highly repressive. That is why discussing this concept will allow us not only to understand the various forms of republicanism, but also the risks that lead the absolutism of virtue in modern regimes throughout.
